Fall Color Report for October 12, 2023
Today I went out with NC Public Television to do a segment on fall leaf colors. We met at the Linn Cove Visitors Center and then drove to the Rough Ridge Trail. We hiked up to the boardwalk, where we did most of the filming.
On the way to the visitor’s center I stopped along the Parkway and took some pictures of Grandfather and various views. Those photos are appended to this report.
There’s still quite a bit of green out there, but plenty of patches of color across the landscape. Last week’s warming has delayed color development, but the forecast for the next week is for much cooler temperatures. I think this will spur the colors on and they should be near peak by the end of the coming week into the weekend.
This weekend I’m going to visit Jeffress Park, Jefferson State Natural Area and Doughton Park. There are road closures on this section of the Parkway, so I’ll have to take Rt. 18 to detour around the closed parts. My post from a few days ago lists the website with closure information on the Parkway.
Have a good rest of the week and weekend!
