Diversity and Inclusive Excellence

In the Department of Biology, we embrace the idea that a diverse community enhances innovation and scientific excellence.

We strive to create an inclusive culture that embraces individual differences and promotes shared values such as intellectual curiosity, creativity, collegiality, equity, and justice. For this reason, we are dedicated to addressing all bias and preventing discrimination and harassment in the classroom, laboratories, and field sites that disadvantage some, privilege others, and run counter to our shared values.

We assert that a thriving community of scientists is one that welcomes and supports individuals of all races, ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, gender identities, gender expressions, national origins, religious affiliations, sexual orientations, ability - and other visible and nonvisible differences.

Through our missions of research, education, service, and public outreach, we are committed to the continued development and support of a diverse community of people, ideas, and approaches.
